How’s your heart?   Wow!  Nothing like a question that smacks us right where we live!

I am concerned for many who seem to have burdened and troubled hearts. We are living in a time where life is so “busy.”  We stay busy and do not take time to think about our hearts or reflect on what we think and say. These are indications of a “heart” condition.

You have the opportunity to make a diagnosis of your present heart condition.  We are not talking about the physical heart that pumps our blood, but rather the mind, will and emotions of man - his heart.

We can walk in a wonderful peace with joy and thankfulness, and it is a good indicator of a healthy spiritual heart.

Please listen to the following heart conditions that will cause you untold problems which result in spiritual, and yes, even physical death:

Deceitful and wicked heart. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9).

A proud heart is an offense against God; is full of sin; stirs up strife; displays arrogance; produces vain imaginations. Psalm 101:5 &119:69, Proverbs 16:5, 21:4 & 28:25, Jeremiah 48:29, Luke 1:51.

Deferred hope makes the heart sick.  Proverbs 13:12

Froward (crooked, perverse) heart. Proverbs 11:20

Fearful (frightened) heart.  Isaiah 35:4, Luke 21:26

Hardened heart.  Hebrews 3:11 and 15

Broken heart. Psalm 34:18, Isaiah 61:1

Sorrowful heart. Proverbs 14:13

Heavy heart.  Proverb 25:20

(In Matthew 13:3-23, we find an interesting parable on the heart.)

Have you ever asked these questions or made such statements: “I just don’t want to go to church!  Too many hypocrites. I don’t have time to read my Bible.  It is difficult to pray because I don’t think God hears me.  I am not even sure God loves me, because I mess up so much!  I can’t seem to get into spiritual things!  This problem is always before me and I feel so dissatisfied.  Really, I am stressed out and worn out.”

My friend, these are indicators of a negative heart condition.

Don’t feel alone.  We’ve all gone through heart problems.

Please look at this downhill spiral that leads to a very serious heart condition: Because that, 1) when they knew God, 2) they glorified him not as God, 3) neither were thankful; but 4) became vain in their imaginations, and their 5) foolish heart was darkened” (Romans 1:21). (numbers are mine). Serious stuff!  Don’t go there.

Where do heart problems come from?  THE MIND.

What you think is what you are, what you have and

 what you will become.

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:45)

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat of the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21).

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

Anger and uncontrolled emotions come from a negative heart.

GOOD NEWS. When we face our problems and truly want to change, we can be set free.

I guarantee you can have a positive report and hope of recovery.

My friend, we can have a heart that is understanding, pure, wise, clean, perfect, merry, faithful, peaceful, love and more. The love of Jesus will overcome all obstacles in our life. His manual is the best Manual of Life ever written (the Bible).

The question is how?  By surrendering our messed up lives to God’s loving care.  Do you know The God of Heaven, who created all things, sent His Son to be our Savior and Redeemer, then placed His powerful Spirit within us.  He desires to fellowship with us and bless us?  Oh, how God loves you and me.  Do you believe that?  It’s true. What an awesome privilege to have the Abba Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit on our side. There is nothing greater!

Life is a series of choices.  We can choose not to believe God and His Word if we want.  Each has been given a free will.  However our own thinking and desires is not going to change who God is and what He says, nor does it change the fact there is an eternity in which we choose to live. God is Truth. We can choose the gift of salvation and the blessings of knowing Jesus Christ, His son.

Sometimes I do not understand why we want do their own thing that brings so much heartache, challenge, sickness and stress when we can live a peaceful and joyful life.  Our self-centered way often leads to discouragement, deception, defeat and depression.

The alternative is simple.  First, we must take the basic step to know Jesus as Savior.  Then, as a child of God, we are told to daily surrender our will to God’s.  It may start out as a discipline, but soon becomes such a blessing that we want to stay on that path.  My friend, God’s way is so worth the practice and dedication. The Lord is available 24/7 to help us from His Throne Room (Hebrews 4:16), with all that crosses our path.  The Bible contains all the help and direction we need to live this peaceful and successful life.  Therefore the wise Christian will put the Word of God in the heart daily.  For blessings, confess it aloud and often.

Let’s look at this verse again,Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).  From the Amplified: “Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.”

In conclusion: We are created for success. We are so loved by God.  He wants us to know Him in a close, personal relationship.   We can have all of God’s benefits right NOW, if we believe Him, accept His Truths and seek to do His will.  It is so important to have a thankful heart and give our worship and praise to our Creator.

Life is too short.  Release all those heart problems to the One who can bring instant healing.  His name is Jesus.

Be blessed,

Jan Owens
