NEW LIFE, NEW HOPE

Just a few short days ago, most of us opened packages and received something new.

It is exciting to enjoy a “new thing.”  However, do you notice that it does not take long for the thrill of the gift or purchase to wear off?

As we look at life, we can receive a precious gift to begin a new day or a new year with a “clean slate.”    There is hope in knowing that yesterday is past and we are not bound down because of limitations, failures or sin of the past.  Any successes of yesterday are now a shadow of things that were.  We can know, with hope and belief, all things are possible for a glorious future.

There is a wonderful and amazing way of life where newness never fades but becomes more sure and bright with each passing day.

Allow me to take a short but good rabbit trail.  In these past days, I had the opportunity to travel, visit family and friends and even get stranded in an airport for several hours which meant spending the night on a cot with 150 other people in the middle of an airport concourse. You soon learn about the temperaments and ideas of others.

As a senior, I find it interesting to watch and listen to people, observing what they say and what they do; as well as get an insight into their life styles.  Sadly, I see that we have lost integrity, values have changed and moral absolutes are vanishing at a rapid rate.

Friends, we are NOT living in a God-friendly society.  Just look around.  There is no way that one can tune into “world-normal” TV, internet and movies without the mind being bombarded by content that is contrary to the purity of God and His Word. We have become a desensitized society.

I want to share with you some startling statistics:

Barna Survey* examines changes in Biblical Worldview Among Christians over the Past 13 Years.

For the purposes of the survey, abiblical worldview was defined as believing that absolute moral truth exists; the Bible is totally accurate in all of the principles it teaches; Satan is considered to be a real being or force, not merely symbolic; a person cannot earn their way into Heaven by trying to be good or do good works; Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth and God is the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the world who still rules the universe today. In the research, anyone who held all of those beliefs was said to have a biblical worldview. Overall, the current research revealed that only 9% of all American adults have a biblical worldview.

MORE SHOCKING STATISTICS: The research data showed that one pattern emerged loud and clear: young adults, ages 18 to 23, rarely possess a biblical worldview. The current study found that less than one-half of one percent of these adults have a biblical worldview. Researcher George Barna has also discovered the disturbing fact that “half of all adults who attend Protestant churches on a typical Sunday morning are not Christian.” He also points out that people who call themselves Christians but are not born-again are “a group that constitutes a majority of churchgoers.”

If we are honest, can’t we all see why there is such a deterioration in our homes, churches, and nation?  Why has this happened? Think on this for a moment.  Where Jesus Christ lives and reigns, there is love, joy, peace that comes with wisdom and understanding.  Compassion and order rules.  There is victory and people are set free.  Why?  Because the God who created the universe and all good things in this world, cared enough about the human race that Jesus was sent to earth, as a man (but all God) who never sinned, but willingly endured the cross of shame because of His overwhelming love for all mankind. He paid the ultimate price, so that each of us could have a new and promising life.  What a gift that comes with this newness and hope that we do not have to pay for our personal sinfulness!

My question is why are we so unwilling and self-centered as to desire to live our lives in our own way when all the time, we could have blessings and abundance that is lasting and takes us right into Heaven?

I know some reasons why there are those astounding statistics above.  Do You?  Reasons #1: There is an enemy named Satan who hates Almighty God and every person born into this world. His purpose is to kill, steal, destroy and bring deception because he knows his days are numbered.  We seem to be letting him do a good job. The Truth is that Christians have power over him.**  Reason #2: Mankind is full of pride and pride always wants to satisfy the flesh.  Reason #3: Our personal disobedience to the things of the Scripture.  Reason #4: Our lack of faith and living in doubt and unbelief.

That’s a good start.

THE ANTIDOTE TO THE SHOCKING STATISTICS:    It only takes one spirit-filled person to affect a change upon hundreds, yes, even thousands and more.  (See the Book of Acts.)  Praise the Lord for ministries that are reaching multitudes today.

GOOD NEWS:  The Gospel, The Good News of Salvation, comes with all encompassing privileges: 1) The ability to repent  and ask forgiveness for all the sin and negativity that we carry within  2)  The truth that we can surrender everything to the Lord Jesus Christ, so God can heap upon us blessings with an abundant life in the here and now  3) Experiencing God’s love and His Word  3)  Spending time in praise, worship and gratitude [the desire of God’s heart]  4) Seeking the Lord with all our heart.

Dear friend, I spent many years in church and full-time Christian work as a born-again Christian but did not know who I really was or what I had as a child of God.  I came to the reality that I was not living according to the full knowledge of what God intended me to be and do.  I thought I knew about living the Christian life, but instead I was greatly ignorant of Truths that could have set me free from a life of dysfunction from my surroundings and myself.  I praise the Lord for His patience and mercy. He came to me in a powerful encounter with the Holy Spirit in my later 60’s.   (When Jesus ascended up to Heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to live within us when we accept Jesus as Savior and become born-again believers.)  Only through the power of the Holy Spirit can we please the Lord.  He is the One who gave me these truths so that I, in turn, can share them with you.  All Christians can have the same experience. The Lord tells us that all we have to do is ask for His power.  There is nothing greater than knowing that we have the Spirit of the God of this Universe living within!

We have hope in God that we can start new and fresh on a pathway that will truly set us free and give us a successful and fruitful tomorrow.  It is our choice to believe and receive or doubt and do without.

Here is a check list of things you do not want in your life when you start a new year: You can rid yourself of these things by recognizing one or more exists within you and asking the Lord to remove it.  He never bring it up again.   It is a start of being set free.

Fear                                   Anger

Unforgiving/Bitterness       Resentfulness

Guilt/Condemnation          Shame

Insecurity/low self worth    Worry and anxiety

Hopelessness                    Betrayal

Humiliation                         Abandonment

Rejection                            Trauma

Frustration                          Timidity

Disappointment                  Prolonged Grief

Loneliness                          False Spirituality

Relationship Issues            Financial Problems

Negative self-talk                Rebellion

Judgmental spirit                Stress, unresolved

Jealousy                             Complaining

Apathy                                Pride

Powerful Scriptures:

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.  Psalm 42:5

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.  Psalm 40:3

Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. Psalm 119:114

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:13

Precious ones, there is no other way to be saved and set free but through Jesus Christ. No other god or force ever took your place on an old rugged cross and shed His precious blood so that you could be changed.  NO ONE!  Jesus gives us the answers and the power through the infallible Scriptures that are life and light to all who will seek His Truth. God cannot and will never lie to you or lead you wrong. This knowledge is a wonderful, marvelous way to a NEW life of HOPE.

Christians, are we emanating God’s love and power to bring victory and make a difference in those around us?

REMEMBER!  One day soon, we will be entering a new Heaven and there will be a promise of a new earth for those who believe. What a glorious hope! Don’t you want to experience this; a place in the presence of Almighty, Awesome God and Savior forever?  The alternative is just the opposite - Hell.  Please, think on your options.

We can start right now to have a NEW year and hope to become change-agents in our world. With God, nothing is impossible.   I am joining with you in setting new goals and plans for 2013.

Because I care,

Jan
