We often take for granted the source and blessing of power and light. That is, until we don’t have it!

I can remember, as a child, when we would have a power outage, my mom would go to that special drawer that held candles and matches. Pretending we were in the ‘pioneer days’ or playing games by soft candle light was fun, for a while!

I recall when my oldest son worked as a guide at the Cave of the Winds in Manitou Springs, Colorado before going to college. One day he took us to experience the cave. I will never forget what it was like when the lights were turned off. Although it was only a matter of seconds, it seemed much longer. It was hard to keep from panicking, in such total darkness, when you cannot see your own hand in front of you. It is easy for the imagination to run wild with thoughts of what could happen. What a relief when the lights were turned on once again.

In 2003, forty million people in eight U. S. states suffered a blackout, and ten million people in Ontario, Canada were involved in the same blackout. The estimated damage in the U. S. alone was nearly six billion dollars. Water contamination occurred because of the shutdown of water pumps with sewage spilling into waterways. Computers went down and we all know that when computers go down, everything goes down. Power generation, manufacturing, transportation, and communication were all affected, to say nothing of home freezers filled with quickly spoiling food. It could happen again; any time or anywhere.

Close your eyes for just a moment and try to imagine what it would be like to live in utter darkness. Our whole world would be without form and beauty. Aren’t we grateful to be able to open our eyes and see light? These illustrations simply remind us that light and power are better than darkness and distress.

With one mighty Word, God spoke and immediately there was light. Could it be that Our Almighty Lord created light before creating anything else in order to demonstrate His wonderful love for us? He gave the splendor of the universe for us to enjoy and visually see His love and power. Yes,

God said let there be light, and there was light! Everything in God and of God is light. There is no darkness in Him, not even a particle of a particle. (1 John 1:5; James 1:17).

Ecclesiastes 11:7 states “Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.” One commentary adds: ”how pleasant to see a new day dawning.”

Please look back to the graphic at the beginning. Note the great burst of light and power. However, all around the perimeter there is black. This graphic portrays what I am sharing with you: the difference between light and darkness.

Satan is the one who is absolute darkness. Oh yes, the evil one can momentarily appear as an angel of light, but it he always follows up this charade with darkness, death, and destruction. His agenda is to kill, steal and destroy. He knows that his future will be spent in hell, and thus he wants to lure as many as he can into his chasm of darkness. Sin always brings darkness to the soul. That is the plan of the evil one. Sin, the presence of darkness, is serious business. It brings hurt to the heart, disease to the body, and confusion to the mind. Sin blocks out the light that God wants to shine into every human being.

(Just a little source of information. Light is mentioned 273 times in the Bible.)

Since our Bible is the source of all Truth, let’s go to some powerful Scriptures that tell us the utmost importance of light. We have already determined that God is the source of all light and that He cannot lie or sin. He has a perfect plan for all mankind.

We cannot hide our secret sins. God knows what they are anyway! When we harbor sin and refuse to repent of it, we are going against our own soul. We are allowing darkness to come within us. The darkness will separate us from our loving, heavenly Father and keep us from walking in the beauty and joy of His Son, the Light. The saddest commentary I can relate, is the fact that if anyone refuses the love of God and chooses to live according to the dictates of their own heart, the result would be eternity in Hell; A terrible place of utter torment and darkness.

Are you saying, “Are you trying to scare us?” My answer is no, I am not. I am presenting facts because I love you. More importantly, so does God, whose love is far greater. Perhaps you want to believe that God loves too much to send anyone to Hell.” The truth is, He wants no one to perish but ALL to come to repentance and knowledge of Him (2 Peter 3:9; Acts 17:30; Acts 3:19). Out of His mercy, love and truth with justice, He gives warning after warning. If you want to see a tragic lineup of those will go out into eternity lost, please read Revelations 21:8. The first two listed are the fearful and unbelieving. It is always the choice of an individual, by self will, to choose his/her eternal destiny. The answer for our soul is in repentance of sin and turning to Jesus as Lord and confessing Him as Savior (Romans 10:9-10). That is the Good News: God is for us, not against us and gave us a perfect plan of redemption through Jesus

Since this is a burden of my heart, I share it repeatedly.

Look, my friend, what The Lord did for us! He knows how much we need His light and direction. So, He gave His Son, Jesus, who died on the cross, went into the very dark bowels of the earth and retrieved the keys of the kingdom in order that we may walk in light. Then He Arose! Satan’s darkness is now exposed. Jesus spoke this most marvelous truth and declaration: “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).

WHAT PROMISES! No more darkness for us as Christians; we walk in light! “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11). “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).

WHAT A HOPE AND FUTURE: An eternity where there will always be pure Light, no sin, no sickness, pain, or suffering. There will be joy, freedom and beauty everwhere! The music of Heaven will be majestic, powerful and peaceful. The lion and the lamb will be playing together. We will never hurt again! We will be in the presence of our Savior and Awesome Creator where loves abounds.

Let’s practice a little Heaven on earth now. Give Jesus full control of your life. Today can be a new beginning of the rest of your life. Let’s join hearts to share the Light and Truth. We are the conquerors and the victorious ones because of our relationship with Jesus. It does not get better than this. The Bible is wonderful. Live in it! Speak it out!

Again I say, “Choose this day whom you will serve!” Choose Life!

With love and blessings,
