What is sharper than the two-edged sword?
Answer: The Powerful Word of the Lord, The Sword of the Spirit
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
The Sword of the Spirit is alive, effective, active, supernatural, operative, powerful, energizing, the very breath of life. The Word of God goes into the deepest part of our soul, exposing, analyzing and judging our very thoughts and the purposes of our heart. Amazing!
As described of Jesus in Revelation 1:16: “and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword.”
A Defensive Weapon
The Sword of the Spirit is to be part of our daily armor of protection.
Why have we been given this Sword of the Spirit? Because we have an enemy who wants to kill, steal, and destroy. He hates the children of God. In the flesh and out of our own intellect we are no match against the enemy. But the good news, Jesus already defeated the enemy. He suffered the cross, shed His blood for our sins and a rose victorious, defeating the enemy and making a mockery of him. He gave us, as His children, the right to use His name, the power of His blood, and His Word over every attack of the enemy (Rev. 12:11). We more than conquerors!
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”
He tells us to “take” the Sword of the Spirit. Take means \ “to get hold or gain possession of a thing; to catch, to embrace to seize.” How powerful is that!
We need to take heed to the following Words of the Lord:
“But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.” Isaiah 11:4
“And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his comin.” 2 Thessalonians 2:8
“Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.” Revelation 2:16
The Sword of the Spirit is Truth as God is all Truth
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” Numbers 23:1
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11
“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” Luke 21:33 “In

Our obedience to The Word is not optional. Acts 5:29
The Sword of the Spirit is to be spoken by faith to bring faith results
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” Romans 10:17.
In the first chapter of Genesis, each time God created, we see these three words: “And God said.” Immediately, creation followed, all by the power of His Word.
Likewise, we are to speak out the powerful Sword of the Spirit. The following verses declare this truth:
‘If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” John 15:7.
“…calleth those things which be not as though they were” Romans 4:17. (Praise the Lord, that as children of God we were grafted in to the inheritage of our father, Abraham!)
“And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.” Luke 17:6
“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:23-26
My friends, please note the principles in the above passage:
Jesus gave instruction to speak to your mountain. Too often, we beg God for an answer instead of declaring the victory over the problem or circumstance as He directed. There are conditions to the answer: We must not doubt, but believe the promise that God will do what He says. We are to speak to our problem with the Word. Finally, an unforgiving spirit will hinder our prayer. It is most important that we have this principle firmly planted in our heart.
The promises of the Word have conditions that we must obey. We are to be doers of the Word.
“The Word declares that Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21. What we speak is what we receive.
As God’s children we are not to stay defeated, depressed or discouraged. Jesus has given us this mighty weapon, The Sword of the Spirit. It is a privilege to heed its teaching for the glory and honor of our Lord.
The Lord reminds us that : "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6
May this be our prayer: “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity (sin) have dominion over me.” Psalms 119:133
Thank you for visiting with me today. May the Lord richly bless each of you.
