A NEW BEGINNING

We just came from a wonderful holiday where many received lovely new gifts.   There is just something special about “new:” New clothes!  New car!  New house!  New job! New accomplishment! New baby in the family! Yes, new gadgets and electronics!  It is exciting to receive a new thing - whatever that new thing is.

A new year can bring renewed decisions; a determination to start a discipline that has been set aside. It could be a new beginning of something we want to accomplish. Making changes and reaching new goals in our life will bring new opportunities.

Did you notice a “new me” on my website?  Yes, for the first time since I was about 9 years old, I am not wearing glasses.  For me, that is exciting and a whole new thing!  (Thanks to the latest technology for removing cataracts.)

On with the Nuggets of Truth.  Each month I seek to share a Word that would help and bless your life.

Are you aware that the God of this Universe, who created all things and holds the world in His hands, loves each of us with an unconditional, everlasting love?  He does!  He wants His children to be blessed.   Everything the Lord declares in his Word is true and trustworthy, for God cannot lie.  His heart’s desire is to see each of us live a fruitful and productive life. God has set forth a plan for mankind that is fool proof and fulfilling.  An awesome and wonderful God provided the greatest gift of all - new life through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  When we sincerely confess our sins and ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior, we become a new creation. (That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9-10).

No matter how messed up and guilty we are, we can become clean and pure because of what Jesus did on Calvary.  (Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Corinthians 5:17).  When we accept Jesus, our spirit within is filled with His Spirit and a transformation takes place within us. This new life goes on into eternity.

Here is a reality check!  Many Christians are dealing with some of the “same old problems” that were in their life before accepting Jesus. Why?  It is because our thinking has not been changed and we lack knowledge of how to change.

New life occurs in our spirit.  Our body, mind, will, and emotions are not automatically saved or changed. They must be dealt with according to Scripture which declares flesh (or our natural state) must die and be brought under submission by the Holy Spirit.  We cry “I want to be new again” but our heart is telling us something else.   Gratefully, The Lord in His providence and understanding made a way for us to be daily re-NEWed”.

Here is the great good news.  Do you mean we can have that same cleansing and purity of heart as our initial experience of salvation?   Absolutely. It is called repentance of our sin to God with an honest and sincere heart whenever we sin. (What is sin?: Anything contrary to God’s Word). Then, He makes us clean again all because of His mercy and grace.  In essence we bind the hand of blessings in our life because of our unwillingness to do it God’s way. When we are not thankful and have a readiness to confess our sin and shortcomings, we develop a hard heart.  We have been given a Manual of Life, The Bible, to know the way to make the changes.

The very same Word of Truth that gave us everlasting life brings the truth that we can have victory and peace, here and now, in this life on earth.   There are conditions however, to every promise. This “new life,“ is a daily, as well as life long process of surrendering ourselves to the Lord and saying “no” to the flesh. (Flesh is the natural state of our mind, will and emotions.  (The body is just a temporary house of our soul and spirit.)

Worthy of repeating:  When we fail and make mistakes, our gracious Heavenly Father has given us His gift of love over and over again.  How?  Always through repenting of our sin and casting every care upon Jesus. His gift is ‘cleaning us up’ through His forgiveness, mercy and love.

There is a requirement for blessings: FAITH.  We must believe His Word and receive the promises.  This does not come through our natural mind, feelings or self-will. Good works and self-motivation will never work.  These exercises may create a temporary achievement, but cannot change our natural state. This means that the condition of our life is always OUR CHOICE; the choice to accept God’s way or our own. (Wow! That can be a hard pill to swallow!)  Always, this is true.  His promises are based on obedience and they never, never fail and are not too hard.

Again why (the emphasis on Faith)?  God has placed within every Believer His very Holy Spirit, the power necessary to accomplish all new work that brings blessings to our selves as well as others.  It is a supernatural transaction that comes from absolute faith in the promises of the Bible. His way is peace, love, joy and victorious living. Our way brings ultimately confusion and defeat. We can only please God as we believe His promises and act upon them.  Faith is believing what God says before it comes to pass.

Another truth: we will not escape suffering and trials in this world because we have an enemy who is constantly coming against us - his name is Satan.  We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony and the only way to defeat the enemy is by the Sword of the Spirit; that is the Word of God or Scripture planted into our mind and heart on a daily basis.  It is the renewing of our mind.

God tells us, dear friends, Jesus paid it all on Calvary, not only the supreme price for the sins of the world, but for the failures we make daily in our life.  When we come to the place where we put our trust in Truth, truly every day can be a NEW event that is peace, love, and joy.  It will put a “new” step in our feet and a “new” beat in our soul.

Another personal example, if you don’t mind: I was a “dedicated” Christian seeking to obey the teaching and preaching I heard and do what I thought was the “right” thing from the day I accepted Christ at age 25.  I kept the standards, was dedicated to soul-winning, faithfulness and the fundamentals of the Faith (I thought).   But in truth, I was an enduring Christian who was hanging on to the rope of life without knowing how to get off.  I came to the place some 42 years later to realize that God said, “My children are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6).”  How was that possible?  Because I was not dead to self and living by the power and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.  Saved?  Yes.  Victorious?  No.  I lived in difficult circumstances without the knowledge of how to change. However, when revelation knowledge came into me through the Spirit of God, dramatic understanding came.

Therefore, I learned by, personal experience, a daily surrender and devotion to the Word is worth every effort to it. In this life we will face trials, sufferings, and challenges. The spirit-filled life is the key for victory through the heartaches and problems we face.  The baptism of the Holy Spirit is an experience given to all of us and it is absolutely necessary for living the Christian life. My own spiritual life was changed by this promise and encounter.  As one of my favorite Bible teachers says: “I haven’t arrived, but I left the gate.”  I praise the Lord for His marvelous truth.

The only reason I spend time and money to send out Bible teaching is because I don’t want others to go through negative experiences. I want to see people blessed.

Make a determination that 2012 will be a great and exciting year for you.  Decide you will surrender to the Lord and His Word to become a blessing to all around you as you personally demonstrate the Godly characteristics that have been given you.  It is a faith transaction that will bring a new enlightenment which is more valuable that anything money can buy or personal achievement accomplish.  To open up your Bible and meditate upon it daily, is to put life and direction in your soul.  It is the most rewarding discipline you will ever undertake.   The Christian life is meant to be truly a fun-filling and exciting life full of provision and hope.

Take in some of the following promises about a NEW you:

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  Romans 6:3-5.

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:25-27

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. Romans 7:5-7.

And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Psalms 40:3

What a glorious hope we have for the future.  Dear friends, it may be much sooner than we think. This life is very short.  Days, weeks and months fly by so fast.  Every spiritual thing we do is laying up treasure for our heavenly home. Jesus is coming soon. One day everything will be new -- forever and ever and ever.  It is easier to miss Heaven than most realize.

Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. Revelation 21:5.

May the Lord richly bless you,

Jan
